I took some time to make a write up, of the first two rounds of the draft. The third round is more of a coin flip on some players, so im just doing the first two rounds. Some have more words than others, some are silly, and some i stole words from other smart people lol But thought this might be some entertainment for some, and if any of you really know me, that is my #1 goal in life...to entertain or be entertained ...its just a review / write up, no specific draft grades or anything... ENJOY!
PORTLAND ROSES
Yasmany Tomas – Going number one in the draft , im expecting BIG things from this big import! It he can stick at 3B and drop bombs like Abreu , well, yeah , id be happy. Obvious first choice for most, somebody I could not pass on.
My second selection/pick #5 was Cubs prospect Kyle Scwarber. I had been trying to trade Beltre for about a month! To the point of giving up , then I received a text the morning of this pick, informing me to select Scwarber here and we could work a deal for Beltre. So that is the reason Scwarber was selected at this point. Although it was a great selection, and he should make owners drool this season as much as Bryant did in 2014. If he sticks at Catcher , i'll be extra sad I traded him away , especially since im a Cubs fan as well
My next choice, pick #6 was spent on Alex Jackson. He looks like he could be a beasty monster from Grrr Grrr Island! Was considered the Top high school hitting prospect in the country! So at pick #6 this one was a no brainer for me!
My 4th selection, pick #9 in the first rd, went to a cross-my-fingers NOW pick! Kin Korn KANG!! - a winner is you. ..lol Was a beast of a Godzilla monster last season, crushing 40 hrs from the ss position. Over here in the states, we dont see that kind of juicy hr totals from the ss position very often. If all things align right, he starts at ss, he hits just as good here as he did over seas , this pick will be a STEAL!!
My 5th pick in the 1st rd, pick 10 , that I got in the deal that shipped out Schwarber , I chose Michael Conforto. His big stick was an excellent replacement for losing Schwarber. Conforto arguably had the best college bat in the draft, and will move fast, fast, fast to drop some Bombs for those Mets! A call up in September is totally not out of the question!
Round 2 selections -
Pick 10 in the 2nd rd went to Odubel Herrera. This was another dice roll NOW pick. He absolutley tore up Venezuela Winter League!! There is big talk about him starting for the Phillies and being a pure injection of excitement!
Pick 13 in the 2nd rd went with Raisel Iglesias P Reds. Another import that I hope ends up very IMPORTant to my team! There is a lot of love going around for him and his pitching , especially in Cincinnati with the comparisons to Chapman. But hopefully the talk of him possibly winnign a starting job in the rotation come true!
-Then I traded for the skipped pick, pick 7 and chose Forrest Wall 2b rockies. This guy is going to put up some f*cking juicy stats this season. ...like sick nasty stats. Lol...serious...Google him...im not jinxing it. LOL
MILE HIGH MILITIA
Having the 2nd overall pick in the milb draft is a nice spot to have! Especially when a player like Carlos Rodon is available. Big, Strong, and MLB ready body , he should be up and pitching alongside Shark n Sale real quick! If Tomas wasnt available, Rodon was easily the #1 pick in this draft.
Rd 2. 9 – MHM selected Sean Newcomb – p – Angels – The second best left hander in the draft! Great selection at pick 29 overall! Has a 60-65 grade on his fastball , and knows how to use it! Plus he pitched for my hometown/birthtown Burlington Bees , so ya cant go wrong there either! (Chuck Brockett is a whiny bitch! Lmao)
rd 2 .16 – MHM chose Derek Fisher – some scouts give him a 70 grade raw power! If that isnt enough to write about him, then I dont know what else to say here lol
BLACKSBURG BLAZE
1.3 Have the third selection in the draft is almost like being that single guy who lives with another couple. Youd much rather upgrade and steal the dudes gf and kick him out! LOL But in this case, the third pick could turn out to be a good one! Blaze selected Jose Peraza 2B ATL . I gotta be honest with you, I didnt see this one coming, I was blinded by the all shiny things! But Peraza is pretty much the top 2b prospect. Big time speed as he stole 60 bases in 110 games last season! He will definitely be exciting to watch this season and into the future.
2.3 Blazey selected AJ Reed a 6ft4 240 lb first basemen! Youve called down the thunder and now youve got it! He also pitched in college and pitched well! Very good athlete! Some could argue his bat is the best power bat in the draft!
VANCOUVER CANADIANS
1.4 – With his first pick in the draft , Canadians was abducted by Aliens and had to skip his pick! Luckily Mulder n Scully tracked down those aliens , Mulder's sister, and Canadians, in time for him to select Kyle Freeland! A serious strikeout machine , would get you wet in the dunk tank with each ball thrown! A top of the line southpaw with mid 90s gas! Excellent selection for making it to the dance late!
2.4 – Touki Toussaint was chosen as Canadians second pick in the draft. Another great selection, as some have said Touki has the most upside than any high school righty in the draft!
MILWAUKEE BREWERS
With the 7th overall selection in the 1st round, Brewers chose Tyler Kolek! Some will argue, the best pitcher in the draft. He slid farther than I expected, but Brew Crew knew right when to snag him! Age 19, 6ft 5, 260 lbs I bet mom is glad he aint home to eat all her food anymore! Lol With a scary fastball that hits triple digits , maybe I shouldnt have said that! Check this sick shit out – His senior season in high school , 60.1 innings pitched, 0.35 era , 126/8 strikeout to walk ratio....siiiickkk!....damn, kind of wish I wouldve thought more about taking him, after writing this lmao
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS
With the 8th pick in the draft , I had a feeling Eric really wanted a big stick over pitching, as when Schwarber/Jackson got picked, he instantly put this pick on the trade block. But looking at it now, im sure he is glad he didnt trade it! With the selection of Jeff Hoffman! Hoffman has a great selection of pitches, with a 97 mph fast ball! With comparisons to Justin Verlander , this pick gets an A+ for massive upside.
With pick 1.18 Giants selected Tyler Beede. Ive seen a mixed bag of reviews on this kid, but with a little Ginats love involved in this pick, you cant go wrong Can hit 97 on the gun , but has control issues. At the very least could play out as a throwin smoke closer , if he fails at starting. Tyler has the skills to prove all the haters wrong!
With the 2.5 pick Giants selected Rafael Devers. A very young studboy. Will be playing his first full season. The Red Sox and other believe his bat could eventually be elite! Could be a long time before Mr Devers helps Eric to any Championships, but the wait could be worth it!!
With the very next pick, 2.6 , Giants selected ss Willy Adames. Adames was traded to the Rays and is now their #1 prospect! At age 19 , another wait is ahead for Eric, but if all these young studs all arrive and beast at the same time, we could all be in some big , big trouble, it would be very bad for all of us...like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters! Human Sacrifice , dogs and cats living together...MASS HYSTERIA!
With pick 2.18 Giants selected Monte Harrison. Which made me happy, as I thought he was eyeballing one or two of my guys Very raw and toolsy. Very athletic. YouTube his name!!! Has all around talent, if he can develop his hit tool , he could be nastyyyy. 80 grade speed. Sick. Sick. Sick
RIVERBATS
Riverbats had back to back picks in rd 1, with the first one selecting Aaron Nola! A very good pick for the 11th overall. With 3 plus pitches , a fastball in the lower/mid 90s, and a big sweeping curve , he could be on the fast track to Philadelphia!
With the very next pick 1.12 , Bats selected Nick Gordon. This was the other player I was debating over, when I selected Conforto. But my love of home run power prevailed lol Nick Gordon is the Twins ss of the future no doubt! Gordon has a cannon for an arm! Has speed and will need to work on his hit tool. But hey, hes 18....dont ...i ...wish!...lmao
with the 2.8 pick in the draft , Bats selected Max Pentecost. Some say the best catcher in the entire 2014 draft class. Loves to go to work at the plate. Deep into counts. Not big power but enough. Should be a higher- batting avg catcher. Very nice pick at this spot.
With the 2.11 pick, Bats selected Grant Holmes....Holmes was named the Gatorade South Carolina Player of the Year after going 4-1 with a 0.35 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 40 innings ...sick nasty! Has a big nasty curve and can touch 98 mph on the gun! Big arm. Big pick. Nuff said!
HOUSTON ASTROS
Team Astros, one of the new cats in our league. For his very first selection ever, at pick 1.13 Nick Burdi! This one surprised me, but there were a lot of surprises as usual. Plus, coming from a big Twins fan, it wasnt as surprising as first thought lol Hit 103 on the radar gun, Youtube it! He throws HEAT! Consistently sitting at 96-100 without breaking a sweat. Future closer for sure!
TEXAS RANGERS
With the 1.14 pick in the draft, The Rangers elected Adrian Rondon. At 16 years young, this qualifies as a call to Chris Hansen and his entrapment To Catch a Predator crew! Lol He does have a mature approach at the plate for his age, and has all the tools in the world, But the road is a long one for this youngster!
With the 1.19 pick , Rangers took Erick Fede. Was one of the more decorated pitchers in the draft. Has 3 pitches with a fastball that can touch 95. Tall at 6 ft 4, projects well for the rigors of mlb.Looks like a good pick here for the Rangers.
With pick 2.17 Rangers selected Alex Blandino. A patient hitter, who rarely chases.Has more potential than his raw tools suggest. No elite tools, but 50 on 80s across the board, should make him a solid play as soon as 2016.
SOUIX FALLS CANARIES
With pick 1.15 the Canaries selected Luis Severino and forced me to cross a player off my want list Has a fastball that hits 98 but sits comfy between 93-95. ...3 pitch pitcher....it might help him to stay down in the minors this season, but im guessing he will be up and pitching for the Yanks sooner rather than later!
With pick 2.15 Canaries selected Michael Feliz – he throws hard , the heater hitting 98 mph at times. Some might compare him to Yordano Ventura. He is still very raw, and needs to work on his control. Could be a sneaky good pick here, or an eventual closer as well.
Orange n Blue
With the 1.16 pick O n B selected Casey Gillaspie. A switch hitter with power from both sides. Best tool is his plate approach pitch recognition. Was rated as the #1 1B in the draft by Baseball America. Looks like a good pick here for OnB. Only time will tell
With pick 1.20 On B selected Bradley Zimmer OF – I like this pick! Has a line drive swing like Christian Yelich. Very good pitch recognition. Lowest tool is his power. Has above avg speed, and conflicting opinions on if he can stay at CF in the pros.
With their third pick in the draft O n B selected Brandon Finnegan. Hes a shorty at 5 11 , but has a low to mid 90s fastball, that can touch 98. Max effort delivery with such a small frame could lead to arm troubles down the line. Could be a sneaky good pick here though.
syracuse scribes
With pick 1.17 the scribes selected Aaron Blair. Blair likes to strikeout people as he had the second highest total in the minors last season with 171. Is a big boy at 6ft 5 230. Should make his debut in 2015. Projects as a safe bet at a #3 starter with low risk. Very solid pick.
Chicago Black Sox
With no picks in the first round, Black sox first player chosen came at 2.12 when they selected Jorge Mateo. Could be the Yankees ss of the future at a ripe age 19. Hes fassssst, dont blink, you just might miss him. 80 on 80 scale speed. Sick. Has very nice tools and only time will tell how they develop.
Black sox then chose Braxton Davidson at pick 2.19 – 6ft 3 215 lbs. He can hit the baseball. Rumor of a homerun he hit that traveled “at least” 500 feet. Controls the strike zone. With comparisons to Anthony Rizzo, I can see why Black Sox took him Nice pick to round out the bottom of the second round!
TAMPA YANKEES
Tampa Yankees used pick 2.14 on Brad Wieck! Yikes! 6 ft 9! That is scary already! Fastball sits at 89-92 with it touching 94. Might need more seasoning than some, but could eventually blossom into something useful! If not, he can play for The Knicks, anything can help!! lol
PORTLAND ROSES
Yasmany Tomas – Going number one in the draft , im expecting BIG things from this big import! It he can stick at 3B and drop bombs like Abreu , well, yeah , id be happy. Obvious first choice for most, somebody I could not pass on.
